Boxing has always had a large following of fans and with the advent of TV coverage many more were able to watch bouts from their own homes. There was a massive increase in interest in the sport from the 1960's onwards after a certain Cassius Clay burst onto the scene. Later to change his name to Muhammad Ali, he was the self proclaimed 'Greatest', and not many would argue. He became one of the best known sportsmen ever, especially among non-boxing fans.
