The game of cricket is first referred to in the late 16th Century in England but the game, or a form of this game, is arguably much more modern, as most of the early games were local affairs in the form of village cricket matches.
Early Cricket Origins
Surprisingly, the first international cricket match recorded took place in 1844, between USA and Canada. The first official Test Match is generally agreed to have been the Australia versus England game in 1877. South Africa then became the third Test nation in 1889. They were followed by the West Indies (1928), New Zealand (1930), India (1932), Pakistan (1952), Sri Lanka (1982), Zimbabwe (1992) and Bangladesh (2000).
