Sunday 16th May will long be remembered as a historic day in English Cricket as the side led by Paul Collingwood comprehensively beat their arch-rivals Australia to win the 3rd ICC T20 World Cup and the first ICC Trophy in England's history.
England got to the final by playing ambitious and exciting T20 cricket not seen by their supporters since the inauguration of this form of cricket and reached the final by crushing Sri Lanka in the semi-final. Waiting for them in Barbados on 16th May was the formidable Australia side led by the charismatic Michael Clarke who had brilliantly beaten the defending champions Pakistan in the other semi-final two days earlier.
Collingwood won the toss, and put the Aussies into bat and right from the outset had there batsman on the back foot and at 8 for 3 the majority of the 15,000 England supporters were beginning to dream this could be over very quickly! However never write off the Aussies and Cameron White and David Hussey saw the Baggy Greens through to 147 at the end of their 20 overs.
England suffered an earlier set back as Lumb was out cheaply, enter Kevin Pietersen! Pietersen and Kieswetter steadied the ship and then started to enjoy themselves against the Aussie attack brutally taking on Watson and Johnson. When these two were out it was left to Morgan and Collingwood to steer England to the historical win and appropriately it was Captain Colly who hit the winning runs.
