Brian Charles Lara was born on 2nd May, 1969, in Santa Cruz, Trinidad and Tobago. After many amazing performances at youth level, Lara finally made his Test debut in 1990 against Pakistan, scoring 44 and 6.

His maiden Test century came against Australia at Sydney in 1993, when he scored 277. The following year proved to be a spectacular success with the bat. Lara, playing for Warwickshire against Durham, scored an incredible 501 off only 427 balls. He hit 10 sixes and 62 fours in what was a world record score. He also set the Test record too, by scoring 375 against England in Antigua. This record was finally eclipsed by Matthew Hayden's 380 against Zimbabwe in 1993 only for Lara to come storming back to reclaim the record with 400 not out, again against England in Antigua.

Brian Lara finally retired from international cricket after the World Cup match against England on 21st April 2007, but his awesome cricketing achievements can be enjoyed forever thanks to a range of West Indies Cricket DVDs and literature.
