The origins of Blackpool Football Club can be traced back to 1877 when Victoria Football Club was founded. However, within the first decade this club folded and Blackpool St Johns was formed in its place. Then, in 1887, following a meeting at the Stanley Arms Hotel it was resolved that a club be formed, known as Blackpool Football Club.
Blackpool FC Honours
Blackpool's most famous achievement occured in 1953 when they won the FA Cup, after two failed attempts in 1948 and 1951. It was a thrilling 4-3 win over Bolton Wanderers, thanks largely to a Stan Mortensen hat trick and the mesmerising wing-play of Stanley Matthews; so much so that the Final is often referred to as the Matthews Final.
Blackpool FC DVDs
In 1971 Blackpool were relegated from Division One (the top flight) and subsequently entered a period of decline. It wasn't until the 2009/10 season when Blackpool finally regained top flight status after winning the Championship Play Off Final, 3-2, against Cardiff City at Wembley - Blackpool were in the Premier League for the first time in their history. Fortunately recent successes have been captured and released on DVD for all Blackpool fans to enjoy.
