Many know it, quite simply, as The Matthews Final. This nostalgic DVD "1953 FA Cup Final" is the remarkable tale of the Blackpool V Bolton Wanderers Wembley showdown.
There have been many great fight backs in FA Cup history, but perhaps none more dramatic or poignant than the final of 1953, where the legendary Stanley Matthews inspired Blackpool to come back from the brink and defeat Bolton Wanderers.
Having lost out in the 1948 and 1951 finals, Blackpool and Stanley Matthews were hell bent on lifting the trophy this time. It was Bolton Wanderers and the magnificent Nat Lofthouse that stood in their way. Indeed, Lofthouse made Blackpool's task even harder after just two minutes of the final, putting his team one ahead. Blackpool's other hero of the day Stan Mortensen soon levelled, but Bolton powered on to take a formidable 3-1 lead. This stood until twenty minutes from time when Matthews's wizardry on the flanks took its toll. Mortensen pulled one back to make it 3-2 and then equalised with minutes left from a glorious free kick. But that was not the end of the proceedings. Matthews dazzled once more and crossed for Bill Perry to etch his own name into Blackpool history books. Stanley Mortensen is still to this day, the only person to score an FA Cup Final hat trick.
Not just Blackpool supporters, but fans of football in general will love watching this incredible occasion all over again, when Stanley Matthews bemused Bolton Wanderers in the 1953 FA Cup Final.
