End of an Era on DVD allows you to relive this pivotal moment in Bolton Wanderers' history. It was the final game of the 1996/97 season and it saw Bolton Wanderers presented with the Division One Championship trophy and more poignantly was the final ever game at the famous old stadium of Burnden Park.
Described as one of the greatest nights in Bolton Wanderers' history, this game not only preceded the lifting of the Division One Championship trophy but also brought the curtain down on one of the most iconic stadiums if football.
After the Addicks took the lead it looked as is they were here to spoil the party, but, buoyed by the crowd and the occasion the Whites hit back with goals from Alan Thompson and Gerry Taggart. A late penalty from John McGinlay was not enough for him and he poached the fourth to leave the scoreline at 4-1 and the curtain down on the famous old ground.
Bolton Wanderers had ended the 1996/97 season as Champions. Our final record read as won 38 matches, drew 14 and lost only 4. Bolton scored exactly 100 League goals, John McGinlay was the League's top scorer, and we ended with 98 points - a massive 18 points ahead of 2nd placed Barnsley.
