Chelsea Football Club was formed in 1905 and played their first League game away to Stockport in September that same year.

For the first fifty years of their existence Chelsea were famous for not winning anything, although they did enjoy the services of legendary forwards Tommy Lawton and Roy Bentley.

Relive Chelsea's Cup Successes

However, all was to change soon after the appointment of former England and Arsenal striker, Ted Drake, as manager in 1952. In the club's Jubilee Season of 1954/55 Drake steered Chelsea to the first Division League title, a feat to be repeated exactly 50 years later under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea enjoyed a purple patch during the swinging 60s playing with style and flair, and in 1965 won the League Cup for the first time followed by the FA Cup for the first time in 1970 - trophies they would win again in later years.

Premier League Champions

Chelsea have also been crowned second Division Champions, and have won the Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup.

In the summer of 2003 Chelsea Football Club were bought by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich giving them more buying clout in the transfer market than any other football club. Not surprisingly, success followed!
