Description

"Everton Vs Watford 1984 FA Cup Final" is the full-uninterrupted account of Everton's first FA Cup triumph since 1966.

The Toffees had not won a major honour for 14 years and they came up against a Watford team who had dramatically risen up the football league to play in their first ever final. For its enigmatic Chairman Elton John, the occasion was all too much. Abide With Me and a few tears greeted the players.

Once Elton's lachrymal glands had given up, the game got under way and the first half an hour was evenly contested with John Barnes of Watford proving threatening on the wing. It looked like the game would be goalless as we headed for half time, but Everton's Graeme Sharp had other ideas, drilling home past Sherwood to make it 1-0. The match was still finely in the balance when one of Wembley's most controversial moments occurred. England international Trevor Steven sent over a big, looping cross to the far post that the Watford Keeper looked as if he would gobble up. Cue a towering leap from Scotsman and now Sky Sports aficionado Andy Gray. Barging into Sherwood, the ball was bundled in to the net. Watford players turned to the referee, pleading for the whistle to be blown, but to no avail. Everton Manager Howard Kendall celebrated along with the hoards of supporters who had made the trip.

This great DVD should be part of every Evertonian's collection, showcasing the team's FA Cup win over Watford in 1984 by 2 goals to 0.
