Description

This is the official DVD Review and Diary account of the 2012 Ryder Cup - The Miracle at Medinah.

One one disc are all the highlights, emotion, and amazing shots of the 2012 Ryder Cup which saw Europe eventually triumph by 14½ to 13½ in what was the greatest comeback in the history of the Ryder Cup. The other disc contains a very special 'diary' account of the 2012 Ryder Cup, featuring an official behind-the-scenes documentary as cameras are given privileged access following the players and captain on and off the course.

It was arguably the greatest comeback in the history of sport - the most remarkable Ryder Cup ever! At one stage on the Saturday afternoon Europe were trailing USA by 10-4 and clearly losing their grip on the trophy.

But Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald held off Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker to reduce the deficit and Ian Poulter then birdied the last five holes as he and Rory McIlroy claimed a dramatic victory over Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson. That was a key moment and the all so important 'momentum' had taken a small but significant turn in Europe's dierction. In fact, reflecting on the match on Monday morning, Jose Maria Olazabal said: "The most important part of the week was Saturday afternoon. That session was crucial and I think the players got the feeling of the atmosphere of the Ryder Cup." That made it 10-6 and set the stage for Europe to take 8½ points from the 12 singles matches and complete an incredible fightback.

Jose Maria Olazabal’s heroes, inspired by the spirit of their talisman, Severiano Ballesteros, overcame the strongest American team in recent memory, a raucous Chicago gallery and a four point deficit going into the final day’s 12 singles, to make history, winning 14 and a half to 13 and a half.

For two days of foursomes and fourballs the home team pounded Europe with birdies. Rookie Keegan Bradley and Masters Champion Bubba Watson led the American charge as Davis Love’s dozen powered ahead.

But one man stood tall. The imperious Ian Poulter refused to buckle. Five sensational straight birdies rescued a point from the Saturday fourballs and restored European faith.

‘Believe’ said captain Olazabal going into the final day - and they did. Donald, Poulter - of course - Rory McIlroy and Paul Lawrie pulled Europe level. Justin Rose stunned Phil Mickelson. Garcia and Westwood added points before Germany’s Martin Kaymer lined up a seven foot putt on the final green to retain the Ryder Cup. The golfing world held its breath…the ball ran smoothly towards the centre of the hole and dropped. Europe had at the very least retained the Ryder Cup.

Minutes later Francisco Molinari denied Tiger Woods to earn the match-winning extra half point.

The ‘Miracle at Medinah’ was complete. Olazabal, face stained with tears, looked skywards - “This is for you Seve.”

For European golf fans in particular, here are a couple of golf DVDs that you'll want to cherish and enjoy over and over again. This is the official DVD Review and Diary account of the 2012 Ryder Cup - The Miracle at Medinah.
