The Open Championship, sometimes also referred to as the British Open, is the oldest of golf's four major championships. It is played annually in July and currently rotates around nine famous golf courses in Scotland and England: The Old Course at St Andrews, Muirfield, Royal Troon Golf Club, Carnoustie Golf Links, the Ailsa Course at Turnberry, Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, Royal St George's Golf Club, Royal Liverpool Golf Club and Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

Historic Golfing Major

The first ever Open Championship was held at Prestwick Golf Club in 1860 and was won by Willie Park, Snr. In fact, The Open was held annually at Prestwick up to 1873 when the honour was held by St Andrews. The following year The Open was held at Musselburgh Links.

Old Tom Morris was oldest winner of The Open Championship in 1867 at the age of 46 years and 99 days. Famous winners over the years include Harry Vardon, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros, Henry Cotton, Nick Faldo, Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino.
