Champion Graham Hill - Portrait of a Legend on DVD is a fascinating programme faithfully recalling the highs and lows of this remarkable driver's career, featuring extensive and rare archive material and personal anecdotes and tributes from Bette and Damon Hill.
The Graham Hill story is predominantly one of courage and determination. Norman Graham Hill, born 15th February 1929, started out as a mechanic for Lotus, where he would meet up with Colin Chapman, and moved behind the wheel to become a Grand Prix driver when Team Lotus entered GP racing in 1958 - his debut F1 Grand Prix race coming at Monaco in the Lotus 12.
In 1960 Graham Hill joined BRM and clinhed his first Formula One Drivers' Championship in 1962. In 1966 he won the Indianapolis 500 before rejoining Team Lotus in 1967 where he helped develop the classic Lotus 49. Hill won his 2nd and final F1 Drivers' Championship in 1968. In total, Graham Hill started in 176 GPs winning 14 times, with 36 podium finishes.
In 1972 Graham Hill won the Le Mans 24 Hours and thereby completing a (to date) unique treble of F1 Drivers' Champion, winner of the Indianapolis 500, and 24 Hours of Le Mans champion - the unofficial Triple Crown of Motorsport.
Graham Hill, along with four other occupants, was tragiclly killed when the plane he was piloting crashed over Hertfordshire on 29th November, 1975. He was only 46.
Champion Graham Hill - Portrait of a Legend on DVD is a wonderful summary of the career of motor racing legend, Graham Hill.
