The MotoGP championship takes place over the period of around nine months each year and races take place in many European countries as well as other worldwide locations. These races are the reserve of prototype bikes that bear no resemblance at all to production machines.
Official MotoGP Season Reviews on DVD
Valentino Rossi famously won the MotoGP championship in consecutive years from 2001 to 2005. In 2006 the championship was decided on the final race of the season (for the first time in 14 years), when Nicky Hayden took his maiden championship title, beating Rossi by only five points.
