Darts was first recognised as a sport in the UK and was quickly adopted throughout the Commonwealth, Ireland, Holland and Scandinavia. The original governing professional body, the British Darts Organisation (BDO), was founded in 1973 closely followed by the World Darts Federation (WDF) in 1976.

The BDO staged its first world championship in 1978 and the competition quickly gained a huge following on television. The first winner of the DBO World Darts Championship was Leighton Rees, followed by legends John Lowe in 1979 and Eric Bristow in 1980.

Phil 'The Power' Taylor

After disagreements a breakaway organisation, the World Darts Council, was formed in 1992. Soon after this it was known as the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The first PDC World Darts Championship took place in 1994 and was won by Dennis Priestley, after which the event was dominated by Phil 'The Power' Taylor. And, in 2005, in contrast to a knock-out tournament the PDC launched the Holsten Premier Darts League.

Over the years famous darts players have included Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld, Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Jocky Wilson, Bobby George and Martin Adams.

Darts DVDs are not produced that often, but you will be able to find any new title here as soon as they are released.
