Istabraq was one of the all-time great Hurdlers. He made Cheltenham his own for four years in a row and arguably would have added a fifth back-to-back Festival win had it not been for the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001.
The Istabraq Story DVD is the tale of a champion racehorse told by those closest to him - a story of brilliance which ultimately came to a dramatic but happy conclusion.
In all sporting fields, champions come and go but only a few will stay long in the memory. National Hunt racing would probably list the steeplechasers Golden Miller, Arkle and Desert Orchid as the 'greats' of the sport as no hurdler has ever achieved such popular acclaim – until Istabraq that is.
There was huge interest in his attempt to claim an unprecedented fourth Champion Hurdle in 2002 at Cheltenham - proof of the horse's enormous popularity on both sides of the Irish Sea. Despite persistent rumours about his well-being, the Irish made him a sentimental favourite for the race. However, it was soon evident that Istabraq was not in ideal shape and he was pulled up after just two flights.
