Martin Johnson was born on 9th March, 1970 in Solihull, West Midlands. Johnson originally played American football for Leicester Panthers before moving down under to New Zealand in 1989. There he played for King Country and was selected for the New Zealand Under 21 side. Upon returning to England he played the remainder of his club career with Leicester Tigers, winning six League titles and two Heineken Cups.
Martin Johnson's England career began in 1990 and he was part of the Grand Slam team in 1995. Johnson took over the captaincy in 1999 and led them to the 2003 Grand Slam followed by the Rugby World Cup in November 2003. His first Lions Tour was in 1993 and he went on to captain both the 1997 and 2001 Lions Tours.
