Preston North End was founded in 1880 and is one of the twelve founder members of the Football League. In that historic first season of 1988/89 Preston went through the entire league schedule unbeaten. ‘The Invincibles' as they were aptly dubbed also won the FA Cup, beating Wolves 3-0 at the Kennington Oval, thereby becoming to first team to achieve 'The Double'. Other teams have subsequently made the same achievement, but none have remained unbeaten in both the League and FA Cup.
Preston then retained their League title the following season but have not won it since. In fact, Preston's last major trophy was the FA Cup back in 1938 when they beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 after extra time at Wembley. Relive the excitement and dominance of the Preston FC Invincibles with a selection of classic football DVDs available from skysportsdvdshop.co.uk.
In 1985 Preston were relegated to the Fourth Division for the first time in their history and nearly lost their League status the following season after finishing second from bottom. It was eventually the voting system which saved them from the reality of non league football.
Preston North End's most famous player was the legendary Tom Finney who played 433 for the club scoring 187 goals, as well as 76 England caps and 30 goals. The achievements of Finney and many other great Preston footballers can be enjoyed with a range of books and DVDs celebrating the rich history of the club.
